They are not the majority and in fact they represent less than 20% of the San Juan population between 3 and 17 years old, but there are still thousands of children and adolescents who have not started their anticovid vaccination scheme. And in the countdown to the start of classes, the Ministry of Public Health seeks to lower that percentage by betting heavily on vaccination operations in parks and at night. In parallel, they assure that pediatric vaccination collaborates to minimize school interruptions, by reducing the number of infections and therefore the number of children who must miss classes.
Up to now there are about 39,000 unvaccinated children and on time it is 18% of the estimated objective population, since the range from 3 to 11 years covers about 130,000 San Juan residents; while that of 12 to 17 years old involves 85,800, indicated from Public Health. Thus, there are approximately 12,000 boys between the ages of 12 and 17 who have not been vaccinated and neither have 27,000 between the ages of 3 and 11.
Shortly after classes begin, the idea is to look for them and provide them with the possibility of being inoculated. The premise is that if they did not go to the vaccination center at the usual times, then take the vaccination center to the square, in the afternoon and even until midnight.
“Perhaps adolescents and children do not attend because they or their parents do not want to or cannot, but with the operations we seek to encourage vaccination. We try to offer more alternatives, both in places and times,” said Fabio Muñoz, in charge of the Provincial Immunization Program of the Ministry of Public Health.
That is why the night operations were launched, as has already happened in the Rivadavia Park or in a room (former Renatto) in the Capital.
On the other hand, the Maternal and Childhood Directorate came out to highlight the importance of vaccinating the boys before the closeness of the start of classes. “Covid transmission in schools depends on local transmission rates, type of circulating variant, local vaccination coverage and compliance with prevention protocols, with layered strategies being the most effective in preventing the spread of the virus in school settings. The covid outbreaks documented to date have been related to a lack of compliance with prevention protocols, and although the risk of serious outcomes in children infected with coronavirus is low, they can become infected and transmit the disease, presenting complications and symptoms. serious those with situations of underlying comorbidity”, indicated the pediatricians of Maternal and Childhood.
In addition, they clarified that the covid vaccines can be applied together with any other vaccine, being able to be administered on the same day or on different days without requiring an interval between doses.
