Berlin (dpa) – FC Bayern want to fill the ten. Ten times German champions in a row. That’s it – for the people of Munich. For the rest rather less.
Will it be a duel between Bayern and RB Leipzig or a three-way battle between Munich, Leipzig and Dortmund? All three, and not just them, have a new coach. There was a lot of change in the Bundesliga. From this weekend until the final matchday on May 14, 2022, you can see what it brings. 18 clubs – 18 theses.
FC BAYERN MÜNCHEN: Nagelsmann celebrates premiere title!
Julian Nagelsmann wins his first title. The fight for the tenth championship in a row will be exciting and bottlenecks in the Munich squad cause problems, but in the end Bayern are cheering thanks to their great quality and pushed by Nagelsmann with the shell again.
RB LEIPZIG: The title won’t work again!
The new coach Jesse Marsch brings a lot of fun into Leipzig attacking football with his positive, thrilling manner. The squad is well-filled, especially across the board, and RB finally wants a title. But at least in the league it is not enough this season.
BORUSSIA DORTMUND: More spectacle with trainer Rose!
The new coach Marco Rose continues where his short-term predecessor Edin Terzic left off and takes BVB to a higher level. As once under the direction of cult trainer Jürgen Klopp, there are more spectacles. But it won’t be enough for the first championship title since 2012.
VFL WOLFSBURG: This time no Champions League place!
Relegation, Europa League, Champions League: VfL has been improving almost continuously since 2018. However, increasing that again or at least confirming it will not work. The switch from Glasner to Van Bommel football, the additional burden of the Champions League: That’s a lot all at once.
EINTRACHT FRANKFURT: The experiment with Glasner fails!
Oliver Glasner’s start went wrong like his friend and predecessor Adi Hütter. After the early cup exit, the Austrian will quickly feel the pressure in Frankfurt. Without André Silva, the goal guarantee is missing. Eintracht doesn’t score enough goals, the coach of choice has to leave again during the season.
BAYER LEVERKUSEN: Völler is retiring without a title!
Even in his last year at Bayer Leverkusen, Rudi Völler will not win a title with the club. The 1990 world champion, who has worked for the club as a player, coach and member of the management team since 1994 with short breaks, has experienced many great moments under the Bayer Cross, but has never won a trophy. Under new coach Gerardo Seoane, the team will first have to find each other without the Bender twins.
1. FC UNION BERLIN: All good things come in threes!
The iron have really arrived in the Bundesliga. The role of the eternal outsider is rid of them, but even as a European Cup team, trainer Urs Fischer keeps the Berliners on course for relegation in their third year. The breadth and depth of the squad around star player Max Kruse are enough for a relaxed season in Köpenick.
BORON. MÖNCHENGLADBACH: Hütter ‘s going up!
The days of hype are over. Without much hype or big sayings, Adi Hütter has taken over from his predecessor Marco Rose. A season without a European Cup offers a lot of time to get to know each other and for training. That will do the team good and give them a better position than eighth place.
VFB STUTTGART: Even younger and more unpredictable is good!
This time, the young and wild go to the start with an even younger squad. VfB manages to stay in the class because the quality of the top talent is right. This time, however, the Swabians will not move closer to the European Cup ranks. Because those who are young still have to learn a lot – and are usually subject to fluctuations in performance.
SC FREIBURG: With jubilee prank to secure relegation!
Christian Streich will do it again. In winter the eternal SC coach celebrates his 10th year, at the end of the season there is a single-digit place in the table. Unlike in previous years, the Freiburg team was able to hold its squad together. If it goes perfectly – and more ambitious clubs weaken again – even the European Cup is possible.
TSG 1899 HOFFENHEIM: Kramaric changes before the end of the season!
Is he going? Does he stay? Is he extending? Andrej Kramaric is the most exciting speculative object at TSG Hoffenheim. The World Cup runner-up is the Kraichgauer’s best player and is repeatedly associated with other clubs. This season – his last year of contract – the time has come: Kramaric is sold to England.
1. FSV MAINZ 05: Burkardt takes off!
Last season, Jonathan Burkardt only scored twice in 29 Bundesliga games – but after Robin Quaison’s departure, the U21 European champions will become even more important. Coach Bo Svensson trusts his talented striker, who is in the starting line-up this season and scores ten goals for Rheinhessen.
FC AUGSBURG: No relegation team under Weinzierl
FC Augsburg is experiencing a carefree season. As in 2015 under coach Markus Weinzierl, despite an intermediate high, it is not enough to make another surprising European Cup appearance, but this time the Swabians have nothing to do with the relegation battle.
HERTHA BSC: Bobic and Dardai ensure an upswing!
It’s not enough for the Champions League at the capital club. But the times of crisis are over. Fredi Bobic as managing director and Pal Dardai as trainer stabilize the “old lady”. The top half of the table is at least in there with this squad of cult player Kevin-Prince Boateng, maybe even the European Cup.
ARMINIA BIELEFELD: It’s going to be difficult again!
The second year after the ascent is considered particularly dangerous. But under the direction of trainer Frank Kramer, the table-15. the preseason long its chances of staying in class. After the rise of the underdogs from Fürth and Bochum, it seems bigger than in the past season.
1. FC KÖLN: Even with Baumgart only relegation candidate!
With a flat cap, T-shirt and clear instructions, Steffen Baumgart has settled in well at Geißbockheim. The momentum that the new coach brings is good and helps, but the squad doesn’t allow big jumps. Cologne, who could only save themselves by relegation, remain a candidate for relegation.
VFL BOCHUM: The Revierclub is on a flying visit in the upper house!
It will be very difficult for VfL. Without the magic foot Robert Zulj, who made a significant contribution to the promotion with 15 goals and 15 assists, it will be tight to stay in the class, especially since big transfers were not possible. Not an easy test in league one for coach Thomas Reis.
SPVGG GREUTHER FÜRTH: The clover leaves it!
SpVgg Greuther Fürth holds the class. In view of the mini budget and the departure of high performers, the francs are considered the number 1 candidate for relegation, but they come as a surprise from an outsider position.
