According to the national agency, 179 children are now affected in France by the inflammatory syndrome close to Kawasaki disease. She also specifies that half of these young patients, approximately 90, tested positive for Covid-19, since March 1, 2020.
As relayed BFMTV, 83 of these children had to be hospitalized in intensive care and 27 others in critical care unit. The regions most affected by this syndrome are the same as those affected by the coronavirus epidemic, namely Île-de-France, which groups half of the cases, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Grand-Est and the Paca region, which have between 10 and 20 cases.
As a reminder, the link between Kawasaki disease and the coronavirus is not established with certainty. This disease, characterized by inflammation of the blood vessels can develop into coronary aneurysms and, in some cases, can be fatal.
