Customs found a consignment of 1760 kilos of cocaine in the port of Rotterdam last night. The street value of the drugs is 132 million euros. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the coke was hidden between sweet potatoes from Costa Rica.
The container was destined for a company in The Hague, but that company has nothing to do with the smuggling, according to justice. No arrests have been made public.
The HARC team, a collaboration of customs, FIOD, seaport police and the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam, is investigating the matter further. The drugs have since been destroyed.
Batches of drugs are regularly found in the port of Rotterdam. Last week another batch of over 3000 kilos of cocaine which was hidden in banana puree. Last month customs officers found 149 kilos of cocaine in a container of mangoes. The same day, a 300kg consignment of narcotics was found in a container of cars.
