Jakarta –
The moment of commemoration of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia was greeted with great enthusiasm. At this moment, convicts held in correctional institutions often receive remissions or reductions in their prison terms.
in the moment HUT ke-78RI there are 175,510 prisoners who receive remission. As many as 2,606 of them even immediately released.
The remission was given directly by the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly at the Independence Day ceremony at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights office, Thursday (17/8/2023). Yasonna said that the remission was a form of appreciation for those who had seriously participated in the coaching program organized by the Correctional Technical Implementation Unit.
“The government, through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, has granted remissions to 175,510 prisoners throughout Indonesia as a form of appreciation for participating in the training program properly in accordance with statutory provisions,” said Yasonna.
On that occasion, Yasonna then instructed the construction residents to always behave well, obey the prevailing rules, and follow the construction program actively and earnestly. Because, he said, the construction program currently being carried out is a means to bring the residents closer to the life of the community.
“In the future, it is hoped that the legal rules and norms that apply in society can be internalized within you and become mental, spiritual and social provisions when you return to society in the future,” he said.
Yasonna also congratulated the inmates who received remissions, especially for the inmates who had the freedom to immediately return to the community and family.
“For those of you who will leave today after receiving this remission, welcome to meet your parents and take care of yourselves, don’t return to being inmates,” Yasonna ordered.
