Great joy at the Böblingen Music and Art School: It is among the selected cultural institutions that have received funding from the Cultural Communities program.

A jury selected the project proposal #musikschulebbonair from 677 submitted applicants for funding of 17,000 euros. This joint program of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media and the Kulturstiftung der Länder promotes digital content production in cultural institutions. To do this, it supports the acquisition of equipment.

The funds are to be used to equip the large hall of the music and art school with the appropriate technology for live streaming, for the digital production of content and for digital recordings. The #musikschulebbonair project is developing the following formats by purchasing cameras, microphones and computer technology:

1) Production of podcasts or video formats

2) Live streaming of auditions and events

3) Hybrid rehearsal work for ensembles and bands

4) Recording facilities for ensembles and bands

“Thanks to this funding, we can consistently continue on the path of our digitization strategy that we embarked on in 2018. I am convinced that hybrid formats will continue to strengthen our educational institution in the future, ”said the director of the Böblingen Music and Art School, Rainer Kropf.

Lord Mayor Dr. Stefan Belz confirms: “During the corona pandemic, our music and art school impressively demonstrated how educational work with digital support can work continuously and successfully. Now I am very pleased that the team can implement further innovative ideas with funding from the federal government. Especially since this goes very well with the urban digital strategy that we are currently setting up. “

Background:

In 2018/2019, the Böblingen School of Music and Art developed a strategy with a digitization project to integrate digital helpers into teaching and to further develop the educational institution in line with the times. The acquisition of iPads for teachers, the installation of a mobile device management system and the development of their own “MKS app” were the most important building blocks in this project.

In spring 2020, the lessons could basically continue seamlessly despite Corona. In addition to the continuation of the offers, the long-term strategic digital orientation of the school is also about improving the cultural communication of regular face-to-face events with digital media.

The long-term objective is to ensure participation and accessibility of the music school’s public events. This not only applies in the short term in times of restrictions due to the pandemic, but should also improve the participation of children and young people in the long term. The existing YouTube channel is a sustainable online format for expanding digital cultural mediation and making it accessible to new groups.

The “Neustart-Kultur” program aims to restart cultural life in Germany in the times of Corona and afterwards by empowering cultural institutions and actors to reopen their houses, programs and activities. In addition to the urgently needed reclamation of a diverse range of cultural activities, this should also create employment and gainful opportunities for those working in the arts.

The “Cultural Communities” part of the program serves to make future-oriented investments to strengthen the attractiveness of cultural institutions in the areas of “education and communication” and “digital participation” as well as audiovisual content production for these tasks in response to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic with a view to digital transformation and online presence in all areas of culture.
