Mitte and EDU submit 1,700 signatures against a nationwide 30 km/h speed limit in Winterthur

The center and the EDU of the city of Winterthur want to slow down nationwide Tempo 30. They have collected 1,700 signatures for their popular initiative, which wants to maintain a speed limit of 50 on streets with bus or postbus traffic.

The Winterthur buses should not slow down: Mitte and EDU have submitted 1,700 signatures against a nationwide 30 km/h speed limit.

The signatures were submitted to the city chancellery on Wednesday, as Mitte and EDU announced. The initiative has not yet formally come into being, but the collection goal of 1,000 signatures was far exceeded with 1,700 signatures.

Inner-city bus journeys would already take a relatively long time, Mitte and EDU justify their initiative. If the top speed is reduced to 30 km/h, it will increase the travel time even more. They fear that this could make bus transport less attractive.

Last summer, the Winterthur city council announced that it wanted to introduce a 30 km/h speed limit on most streets. In residential areas, the speed should be limited to 20 km/h. (sda)
