NEW YORK – A 17-year-old girl was shot dead in an empty Brooklyn apartment Monday night due to what police are investigating as a possible incident, police sources say.
NYPD has identified Raelynn Cameron, from Queens, as the victim of the shooting in the East New York apartment building on Eldert Lane. Officers who responded to an emergency services call shortly before 11pm found Cameron shot in the chest on the sixth floor of a large complex.
She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
It wasn’t clear what Cameron was doing in the building at the time. Law enforcement sources say the police have arrested several people who had been with her and are investigating whether the gun accidentally exploded.
No arrests were made.
