17-Year-Old Gabriel Moscardo: Rising Star on Corinthians and Balancing Business School

At the age of 17, Gabriel Moscardo has not even been on the Corinthians professional team for 20 days, but he is already an absolute starter with Vanderlei Luxemburgo. After falling into the coach’s graces with just five games played, the boy doesn’t know if he will continue to attend business school.

While living his dream at Timão, Moscardo tries to absorb the intense changes that have occurred in recent days.

“Corinthians deserved to pass the 90 minutes”, says Careca Bertaglia | The Voice of the Crowd

Moscardo made his professional debut for Corinthians on the 28th of last month and, since then, he seems to have been chosen by the coach to occupy the position of first defensive midfielder.

With that, he was on the field last Saturday, in the classification on penalties, against América-MG, in the semifinal of the Copa do Brasil. With everything happening so fast, the future and the routine of before are unknown to him.

— I’ve been working professionally for 17 days, I’m on vacation from college. I’ll be back at the beginning of next month, it’s going to be crazy. I do English, I train in the morning and in the afternoon, at night I leave it for my studies. Next month, college starts again. I will try to continue. If I see that the training ends up getting in the way, I’ll stop, but I’m still focused on the administration course – said Moscardo, who is in the second semester of the course.

To get an idea of how fast things happened for the 17-year-old, the two previous rankings of Corinthians in the tournament, against Remo and Atlético-MG, Moscardo followed from a distance, far from the Neo Química Arena, and without having any idea that he would be on the field as a starter in the quarterfinals.

— Against Remo, in both games, I was at home with my family. Nor had he been asked to train with the professional much. I twisted a lot, there was an adverse situation. Against Atlético-MG, I was in Switzerland with the under-20s, I only found out later. In the second game, he was in concentration. Neither imagined nor thought about being a starter in the next two matches. Incredible feeling to play with this crowd, I will remember for the rest of my life – he said.

Moral with Cassio and help from Faust

One of the defining moments for Moscardo was the praise given by Renato Augusto after his debut. Now, last Saturday, it was Cássio’s turn to talk about the young player. The captain of Timão even joked about not praising him too much so as not to be sold quickly, as happened with Pedro, who is already negotiated with Zenit, from Russia, for 2024.

“Very good boy. He trained a little with us, he trained for a while and we already talked a lot about him. We watch the under-20, under-17 games, we talk about the boys. He surprised me a lot with his personality, but he is very calm, he must be well structured by the family, he remains calm, well, focused on his goals. I went to talk about Pedro and they already sold it, I don’t know if I’m going to talk much about him. They sold well, but leave Moscardo with us for a little while to give the club some money in the future – joked Cássio.

Besides Cássio and Renato, Fausto Vera has also been important in the player’s adaptation.

— Two players who talk to me a lot: Fausto and Renato Augusto. Renato has already said too much about me, I got emotional, it seems like it’s a lie. There are two guys who are my professional references. Big dad Renato and Fausto helping me a lot – Moscardo said.

Moscardo’s good performance in Corinthians’ first team earned praise abroad. The midfielder was featured in the Spanish newspaper “As”, with an article describing his qualities and talent for “coordinating the team with and without the ball”.

The text, also published on the Spanish newspaper’s social networks, led to jokes, jokes and even concern from the fans about a possible early sale of the player to teams in the Old Continent.

Timão, however, seems to be well insured in the player’s contractual issue, whose current bond only runs until September 30, 2024, but already with an agreement for a new contract, this one until 2027, with salary readjustment adequate to Moscardo’s new reality .

— I’ve been standing out, fans ask for it, but I’m focused on football. We talked, but I put it in my head to focus on football to make things happen – finished Moscardo.
