17 new firefighters and several promotions in the Martinique barracks

The Martinique Fire and Rescue Service has just recruited 17 new agents into its ranks, alongside the promotion of several lieutenants. For the staff of STIS 972, this is “an important step in strengthening our service, to respond effectively to current and future challenges”.

Tuesday, October 1, 2024, was a day of recruitment and promotions at STIS 972. “The Martinique Fire and Rescue Service is proud to welcome 17 new agents and the promotion of 17 new lieutenants” welcomed the general staff at the Fort-de-France headquarters, where the ceremony took place.

15 new sappers and corporals, with their initial training, will swell the ranks of our operational workforce. 2 administrative and specialized staff (PATS) also join our teams to contribute to the organization and management of STIS972. 17 newly promoted lieutenants will strengthen the management of our teams and actively participate in the safety of residents.

Lieutenant Audrey Laurent is one of those promoted. At 31, she is now the new head of center at the Sainte-Marie barracks, 9 years after her engagement. Encouraged by her big brother, she first volunteered for 3 years with the fire service.

This was carefully worked on, thought through and today I achieved a first objective. I hope to manage men and women with kindness (…) and I want to be an active force. I have an older brother who was already a firefighter (…). The intervention that had the most impact on me was my first extrication where I really had to implement the techniques learned in training (…). There is urgency, we must be rigorous, rapid, but we must also be efficient.

Domestic fire, road accident, emergency assistance to people… all situations for which firefighters are called upon on a daily basis. Even if they are sometimes unwelcome or attacked in certain cases, their dedication to serving citizens remains intact.

These arrivals and advances mark an important step in strengthening our service, to respond effectively to current and future challenges.
