A total of 17 families, including 30 adults and 7 children, lost their homes after a fire consumed the apartments of a building in Brooklyn.
The three-alarm fire broke out around midnight Sunday at an apartment complex on McDonough Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
According to the New York Fire Department (FDNY), 3 people were injured and had to be taken to hospitals to receive medical attention.
More than 100 fire and emergency service members battled the flames, which started in the attic of the building. The causes of the fire remain under investigation.
Officer Brian Cordasco, deputy chief of the FDNY, highlighted the work of the firefighters. “They were able to get the victims out and transported them to the hospital very quickly,” he told local media.
