Scientists have started a study that examines the recovery process of astronauts who went to space after returning to Earth.
According to the news of the Guardian, in the study, bone density in the wrists and ankles of 17 astronauts staying at the International Space Station (ICC) was analyzed.
NO COMPLETE HEALING IS OBSERVED
The researchers found that 9 astronauts did not show complete improvement in bone density after one year, and lacked bone density for 10 years.
In addition, it was stated that the recovery process of astronauts who stayed in the ICC between 4 and 7 months was slower.
Director of the Joint Health Institute, Dr. “The longer you stay in space, the more bone you lose,” said Steven Boyd.
It was shared that the study raises great concern for the missions planned to go to Mars in the future.
Details of the research have been published in Scientific Reports.
