Ahlen – Fit for the virtual classroom: The teachers at the municipal comprehensive school received further training on distance teaching.
Teachers at the municipal comprehensive school in Ahlen completed 168 advanced training courses in just one day. “It doesn’t get any more digital than this, and it doesn’t get any more individual either,” says the headmistress Elisabeth Beier, summing up the in-house training day.
With this, the school sees its teachers “now really well equipped for the now even longer phase of complete distance teaching”, according to a press release. The Hamburg company Fobizz made this possible. Experts from education, science and technology passed on their knowledge in the learning videos.
The teachers could choose from a range of over 50 advanced training topics on media literacy and digitization. The favorites were diverse: They ranged from “Ideas and digital tools for creative face-to-face and distance learning” to “3D printing in the classroom” to “Climate change and sustainability in the classroom with digital tools” and “Digital teaching – the virtual classroom”.

Sandra Heuer-Rabe, class teacher in the new fifth full school year, was enthusiastic about the “tools” with which lessons can be designed digitally, creatively and vividly. In this time, which is not that easy for the children, it is important to motivate them despite the circumstances and to be able to continue teaching them. “That is the positive aspect of our crisis that one shouldn’t overlook”, the didactic director, Frauke Hantel-Laufenberg, looks to the future: “We attach importance to not being too short in our decisions regarding our pedagogical and didactic concept for distance learning think, but also to use the innovation boost after Corona. ”Digitization enables mobile, time and location-independent learning and an increase in digital skills.
A school platform for digital lessons is a prerequisite for contemporary work. As early as April, the city approved the use of “IServ” at the request of the municipal comprehensive school. The deputy headmaster Fabian Blech set up the platform in the first lockdown. Thus, during the entire first half of the school year, the “emergency” distance lessons could be rehearsed, including technical support. “In this way we are able to digitally implement our timetable one-to-one. Our teachers use the video conferencing module or the IServ messenger for this, ”explains Blech. The comprehensive school also takes the digital route when it comes to organizing registration dates.
Fixed appointments can be booked in an online calendar. If you don’t want to use the digital route, you can make an appointment by calling 91 16 20.
