165,000 Elderly People to Receive Christmas Cards to Combat Loneliness

About 165,000 elderly people can expect to receive a card on their doorstep this Christmas. The card campaign of the Elderly Fund is intended to combat loneliness among elderly people.

Almost half of all cards are made and decorated in schools. “But companies are also increasingly putting the campaign on their radar and are writing about it during Christmas drinks, for example,” says a spokesperson for the Elderly Fund.

“And there are some people who make cards all year round and then give us 100 cards at once.” Cards also arrived from an international school in Spain. “All in Dutch. Very nice that the elderly are also taken into account there.”

Last year, more than 250,000 cards were delivered to the elderly. “We suspect that the corona period gave extra urgency to the action, when people could not visit each other,” says the spokesperson. “We assume that that contact moment can now be realized in a different way.”
