160 cases of Covid-19 variants in Dordogne according to the Regional Health Agency

160 cases of variants have now been detected in Dordogne, announces the Regional Health Agency without specifying exactly where they come from. Yesterday, the Minister of Health mentioned above all the presence of South African and Brazilian variants, which are more contagious.

“The north of the department, in particular the town of Nontron, is more particularly concerned by this circulation of variants” explains the ARS in a press release adding that “the entire department must be considered at risk of spreading these potentially more contagious strains”. The ARS which calls on 200 people to be screened this Monday after their visit to the Nontron nursing home in January.

2/3 of variant cases are linked to a health establishment, an EMS (medical and social establishment) or a community. The remaining third are believed to be cases in the general population.

The ARS and the Prefecture of the Dordogne encourage the population to be tested, to respect any isolation measure and to respect barrier gestures.

Declining indicators

On the other hand, the incidence rate, the number of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, continues to decline: 844 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in one week in Périgord. This figure is still the highest in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
