The time is faster than any other woman has done, and she shaves a little over three-tenths off the Australian Ariarne Titmus’ previous world record time from last May, according to AFP.
McIntosh struck with the record time in connection with selections in Toronto for, among other things, the WC in Fukuoka in Japan this summer. For the first time in four years, the selections take place in front of a live audience.
– In recent years, I have devoted all my time to this, to be as good as I can. But to achieve this was very unexpected and it was not in my wildest imagination,” McIntost told Yahoo.
The Canadian has already swum two WC gold medals, in the 200 meter butterfly and 400 meter medley. Both golds are from the long track championships in Budapest last year.
