LONDON – Only 16-year-old Luke Littler became the youngest player in history to make it to the finals of the World Darts Championship. The Englishman won Tuesday’s semi-final in London over compatriot Rob Cross 6:2.

Nineteen days before his 17th birthday, Littler is easily the youngest World Cup finalist. In addition, he can become the first unseeded player ever to win the title. His Wednesday final opponent will be the better of the duel between other Englishmen Luke Humphries and Scott Williams, who surprisingly knocked out the favored Dutchman Michael van Gerwen, the three-time world champion, in the quarterfinals. Both of them are aiming for the premier promotion to the finals.

“I’m at a loss for words. It’s just crazy to be in a World Cup final on my debut.” Littler told Sky Sports. And at the same time he revealed his plan for the final: “I’ll do what I’ve always done. I’ll have an omelette with ham and cheese in the morning, then I’ll come here and eat pizza and train.”

Until now, the youngest World Cup finalist was Kirk Shepherd, who won the title in 2008 at the age of 21 years and 88 days.

Littler went down in history with his successful entry into the tournament, at such a young age no player has won a match at the World Cup. At the beginning of the championship, the spectators at Alexandra Palace shouted at him “you have to go to school in the morning”, but gradually Littler earned more and more respect. By progressing to the finals, he has already earned 200,000 pounds and enjoys the benefits of being a publicly known person. He enjoys Premier League football matches from the box.
