A 16-year-old teenager was charged with murder for the “random” shooting of Mexican Obed Beltrán Sánchez in a New York Subway station in the Bronx.
His name was not released because he is a minor, but police said was charged as an adult. The list also includes five counts of attempted murder for the injuries he left and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. He also has a history of robbery in 2023, he indicated. CBS News.
NYPD is still searching for two more suspects in the shooting that happened Monday afternoon amid an apparent dispute between gang members that began inside a train on the 4 line and extended to the Mount Eden station.
Sources said police are investigating five separate shootings and other incidents in recent weeks involving an ongoing dispute over insults and attacks on social networkschannels that have been linked to other acts of violence in the city.
At least one person was injured after being shot inside a train car. The other victims were on the platform waiting to get on the train. The target of the gunmen could have been a fifteen-year-old boy who was injuredsaid a police source. That teen is a suspect in a previous non-fatal shooting that occurred in the north area of the station.
According to those close to him, Sánchez Beltrán (35) had planned to return to Mexico to join his wife and two children, but he was fatally shot “at random” while leaving work on Monday, February 12.
The family hopes that his body can be taken to Mexico soon..
