16-year-old Boy Suffers Severe Burns and Vital Risk after Explosion at Application Lyceum

This Saturday a 16-year-old boy was burned at the Application Lyceum for an explosion. The minor suffered serious burns to his body and respiratory tract, which keeps him at vital risk.

Hours later, the Municipal Education Directorate issued a statement stating that “the student is at vital risk and was admitted to the Public Assistance Emergency Hospital (Posta Central), where he underwent surgery to treat the seriousness of the injuries suffered. The next few hours will be keys to define your recovery“.

“The exact causes and circumstances in which the 16-year-old student was seriously injured are being investigated by the Carabineros Criminalistics Laboratory. We call on the community to act responsibly in handling and disclosing the facts and avoid advancing versions without real foundation“, they added in the letter.

Subsequently, they explained the context in which the events occurred, recalling that “during the night of Thursday, July 20, and after a student vote, the Student Center of the Liceo decided to start a takeover of the establishment. On Friday the 21st a School Council was held, meeting the different levels of the community and looking for ways to try to resolve this occupation through dialogue.”

“In this context, and finding the high school taken, the fact that is being investigated would have occurred outside and that keeps the student between life and death. During the night of yesterday, and after abandoning the premises, the High School Management recovered the dependencies of the establishment. Notwithstanding this, it is necessary to reiterate once again that any demand that students have is not a reason, nor can it be a justification for actions that put their own integrity and that of other people at risk,” they settled.

Finally, they called for “responsible adults and families of students to talk and guide with their children and pupils. In the immediate future, both the Directorate of the Application Lyceum and the Municipal Education Directorate will seek to accompany and support the student’s family after this very serious accident that impacts the entire educational community.
