Who is Alexia named after? King Willem-Alexander answered it himself when the princess was born. “She’s named after me and I know a lot of Alexias in this world who she’s not named after,” he said. The name was an idea of Queen Máxima. The princess also has three other names: Juliana, Marcela and Laurentien. They refer to ‘three special women from three generations’, said the then crown prince. The name Juliana is a reference to the king’s grandmother, Marcela is an aunt of Alexia and Laurentien is the wife of Prince Constantijn.
