“Zelta mikrofona’23” albums are evaluated in 11 genre categories, debut, album design and songs are distinguished separately. The jury also evaluates the audiovisual performance in the video and concert recording categories. The “Album of the Year” is voted for by the leaders of all album categories. The most listened to song on radio stations will receive an award in the “Radio hits” category, while in the new nomination “Most streamed record with Elektrum” the most listened to song or composition on music streaming sites will be awarded. Members of the public can reward their favorite songs by participating in the “Elvi Song of the Year” vote, which will close during the ceremony.

“Although the number of applications for the annual Golden Microphone music recording award is slightly lower this year than last year, in general the submitted recordings provide an objective picture of musical life in Latvia in 2022,” he said. said music critic and journalist Jānis Žilde, who was elected president this year for the first time as a jury member.

Žilde outlined the challenges of the jury’s work: “Like every year, a big test for the jury is to put all the submitted works into shelves or categories, the number of which is limited. For example, jazz is again paired with funk, rock with metal, as there are not always enough entries in every genre number, even the “Golden Microphone” ceremony must fit the compact requirements of a live TV broadcast. Traditionally, the “Debut” category must be adapted, because already well – known and experienced musicians with ten, fifteen and even more years of experience in the music industry still want to see their works in this nomination, which is not in line with the philosophical approach expressed in the award rules , i.e. “the priority of the “Debut” category is the evaluation of new talent”. and full albums. Encouraging reflection and long-term understanding of raw material recycling, special boxes will be placed in “Elvi” stores throughout Latvia until 1 February in which to leave used phones, in order to get gold to gild the microphone figurines by recycling them.
