The giant reptile terrorized the world’s oceans about 150 million years ago. The two-meter-long skull fossil is the best evidence found so far and is expected to bring new information about the ancient predator.
Paleontologist Steve Etches points out that nothing compares to this find. “This fossil is complete. The jaw is connected to the top of the skull as it was in life.”
The skull is longer than several humans, which makes you wonder how huge the pliosaur itself was. It has 130 long and sharp teeth – one bite would be fatal.
It is believed that the pliosaur was 10-12 meters long and moved at a very high speed in the ocean. “There’s no question that it’s like an underwater tyrannosaurus,” Etches says.
