150 Left-Wing Extremists in Zurich District 4 Demonstration with Police Presence: Damage, Verbal Comments, and Identity Checks

On Tuesday evening, around 150 left-wing extremists took part in an anti-WEF demonstration in Zurich’s District 4. The police were also on site with a large contingent.

For around an hour, the demonstrators marched from Helvetiaplatz towards Langstrasse and made the rounds via Kanonengasse and Stauffacher back to Helvetiaplatz. They did the whole thing three times.

There were several verbal comments against the police. Some shop windows were also damaged and a sports car and a city bus were smeared with paint.

Shortly before 9 p.m., the procession of demonstrators at Helvetiaplatz broke up. Afterwards there were some identity checks by the police.

On the whole, the demonstration was quiet. Initially, the police announced via loudspeaker at Helvetiaplatz that the demonstration had not been approved, but that it would be tolerated as long as it took place peacefully.
