This Saturday, August 3, 2024, will mark the launch of the 6th edition of Geekali, a festival dedicated to pop culture, video games and manga. This unmissable event, held at the Nordev Exhibition Center in Saint-Denis, allows the general public to be immersed in the world of artistic animations, eSport competitions, cosplay and music. It is on this occasion that French bee and Simplon Outremer will launch a Game Jam, a hackathon that allows teams to compete in the creation of a video game prototype. This tournament will give 15 Reunion Islanders the opportunity to create a video game for the airline. We publish the press release below.
It will also be possible to interact with the participants at the French bee stand at Geekali on Saturday, August 3. The teams formed at the end of July will have nearly a week to develop their projects. In September, the public will be asked to vote for their favorite game. A few days later, a jury will deliberate to designate the winning team. The team will participate in a trip to Paris Games Week next October on French bee flights. The closing ceremony will take place on September 13.
The objective of these two complementary partnerships, with Geekali and Simplon Outremer, is to promote the world of video games and its economic opportunities to the people of Reunion Island. This operation highlights new professions in the digital industry such as game designers, game programmers, QA software testers, etc.
Karine Bonnal, Sales Manager of French bee in Reunion Island, says: “It is with pleasure that French bee is renewing its presence at the Geekali festival. This event is very important for us because it allows us to build links with the younger generation, here in Reunion Island, our flagship market.”
She adds, “our new partnership with Simplon Outremer illustrates our company’s commitment to helping broaden the horizons of the people of Reunion Island. As an innovative player, exploring the world of video games makes perfect sense since our target audience is familiar with it. It is also a particularly interesting area for understanding new consumer trends.”
Adèle Petit, Director of Simplon Outre-mer adds: “What could be more exciting for our learners than working on the project of a large company such as French Bee! This is the heart of our active teaching: training through concrete projects by surrounding ourselves with the best coaches on the island. This is a first in the territory in the service of the upskilling of local talents, and which is part of the “La Grande Fabrique de l’Image” program of France 2030, operated by the Caisse des Dépôts in conjunction with the CNC.
