A 15-year-old boy has been arrested as a suspect in Thursday night’s Times Square shooting, according to police reports.
The detainee is José Alejandro Rivas Figueroa, who arrived in the country in September of last year. Rivas Figueroa is originally from Venezuela.
The arrested young man resides in a migrant shelter and before being arrested the police had reported that he had a .45 caliber pistol in his possession.
“In less than 24 hours we took out a very violent subject who had no reservations about shooting and endangering the public,” said NYPD Assistant Chief of Detectives John Savino.

Rivas Figueroa was arrested Friday in Yonkers, according to authorities.
“The team used an entire task force of detectives and all the investigative techniques, i.e. video collection, canvases, ballistic processing, forensic analysis, evidence processing, witness interviews, we spoke to hundreds of people “Savino added. “We obtained what we describe as pristine photographs of the suspect.”
The police had, in fact, made public photos of the suspect and were offering a reward for information to identify him and find his whereabouts.
“We need the public’s help to identify and locate this individual before he hurts anyone else. He has already shot an innocent person and tried to murder a New York police officer. Any information? @NYPDTips 1-877-577-TIPS,” read one of the NYPD messages.

Later, the same police posted another message on social media in this case warning those who dare to commit a crime that they will be arrested.
“If you dare to commit a crime in New York, rest assured you WILL be arrested. We are absolutely relentless in our pursuit of justice and will not rest until the job is done,” reads the message from Patrol Chief John Chell. .
