15-year-old student saves a janitor from suffocation in Carrara

(ANSA) – CARRARA (MASSA CARRARA), 01 OCT – Dramatic rescue, but with a happy ending, a few days ago in a school in Carrara (Massa Carrara) where the 15-year-old student Niccolò Ricci of the ‘Zaccagna-Galilei’ institute rescued a janitor freeing her from suffocation thanks to a rescue maneuver that the boy had learned from his mother. The story is reported today by the news of La Nazione de Il Tirreno. The woman, while eating a snack, began to feel discomfort in her throat, realizing almost immediately that some food with peanuts among the ingredients was stuck in her throat and preventing her from breathing. The student noticed this and intervened. The boy knew the Heimlich maneuver, useful for clearing the airways in case of obstruction, and promptly managed to apply the procedure on the woman, saving her life. The young man then said that the maneuver had been taught to him by his mother, who is a nurse. “I had never done it, but I couldn’t sit still and I decided to try, I was scared when I saw her with a blue face,” he told reporters. The school assistant, Consuelo Guidi, was moved and hugged the boy, thanking him for the gesture which, in fact, saved her life. (HANDLE).
