15-Year-Old Son of Chechen Leader Appointed Head of Security: Controversial Rise to Power

Adam Kadyrov, the 15-year-old son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, has been appointed as his head of securityDPA reported, referring to official messages from the Russian Republic.

The young man who recently kicked a defenseless man in prison is a “shining example” for his generation, Kadyrov’s special forces commander “Akhmat” Zamid Chalaev announced today on the Telegram app.

Chalaev published a photo in which he stood next to Adam Kadyrov. Other officials, including National Policy Minister Ahmed Dudayev, also praised the young man’s “leadership qualities”.

Ramzan Kadyrov himself was for some time the deputy head of security for his father Akhmat Kadyrov, who was killed in 2004.

Adam Kadyrov received several medals and holds the title “Hero of Chechnya” for beating a detained man accused of burning the Koran. Ramzan Kadyrov, who is accused of human rights abuses including murder, posted a video of the attack and expressed his pride. The footage caused outrage among some Russians, DPA said. No criminal proceedings were initiated against his son.

The victim was detained in Volgograd on charges of burning a Koran in a public place and handed over to authorities in the predominantly Muslim Chechen Republic. Days after the publication of the scandalous video, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Ramzan Kadyrov in the Kremlin and praised the way he leads the republic.

Last year, three of Kadyrov’s sons, including Adam, posed for a photo with guns in their hands in Ukraine. The Chechen leader said they were fighting as part of the Russian invasion force, but observers doubted whether they had engaged in actual combat.
