NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department opened an investigation Thursday after a fatal shooting erupted in a Bronx neighborhood Thursday that left a 16-year-old wounded and killed a young man of 15 years
The shooting broke out at approximately 8:52 p.m. near an apartment building located at 998 Longwood Avenue. Police arrived at the scene after receiving 911 calls after gunshots erupted.
Responding police officers located the two injured teens. The 15-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln in critical condition.
Emergency medical services also transported the 16-year-old, who was shot in the leg, to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition.
The 15-year-old was reported dead at the hospital on Friday. He was identified as Josué López-Ortega, a Bronx resident.
No arrests have been made and a police investigation is ongoing.
