mA police team found a 15-year-old girl from Idukki, who was kidnapped by a runadan worker on the pretense of love, from a border village in West Bengal. A 10th class student, who went missing from Thodupuzha in Idukki at midnight on April 22, was found from Bengal and brought back home within days. The 15-year-old girl was brought home safely through the quick action taken by the Idukki District Police after identifying the native place and address of the accused, who is a migrant worker. Suhaili (23), a native of Murshidabad, West Bengal, who kidnapped the girl, was also arrested by the police and brought back to the country. He was later produced in court and remanded.

Missing complaint, mobile phone at home

On the night of April 22, the family of the 10th class student filed a complaint with the Thodupuzha police saying that she was missing. Upon receiving the complaint, Thodupuzha SI. Ajayakumar and his team filed an FIR. Registered and investigation started.

The girl had left her used mobile phone at home and had gone out with the young man. The girl’s mobile phone was left at her home to avoid being followed by the police team. But the police checked the phone information in detail. During this inspection, it was found that phone calls were coming from a number regularly. The police was trying to identify who this number belonged to. Investigation conducted with the help of cyber cell revealed that this is the number of Suhail, a migrant worker living in Thodupuzha. It was also found that the number was switched off at Perumbavoor in the morning of 23rd. With this, the police reached the place where Suhail lived and collected information. All those who lived with him were questioned. No information was received from them about where he went. With this, the police decided to go to the accused’s country and conduct an investigation. Idukki SP Kuriakos, Thodupuzha DYSP. MR. Madhubabu supervised this investigation. It was decided to send a police team to Bengal.

By Air to Bengal

SI G. Ajayakumar, A.S.I. A group consisting of Salim, CPOs Vijayanand, Harish Babu and Neethukrishna traveled to Bengal to find the migrant worker and the girl. Considering the seriousness of the case and there was no time to waste, the trip was by plane. The police team reached Kolkata by plane from Kochi. From there, travel for seven hours to Dongol in Murshidabad. Then Dongol sought the help of the police. On the basis of the information collected earlier, the accused’s house and other details were found in the inland village. Later, the police team found the girl from Suhail’s relative’s house during the investigation. The suspect who was in the vicinity was also taken into custody within hours.

The accused had crossed paths with the girl from Thodupuzha and reached home in Murshidabad by train. At the same time when the accused and the girl got off the train at Murshidabad, the police team that had left Kochi had reached Kolkata. The accused never expected that the police team would reach Murshidabad quickly by air. With this, the attempt to get to another place with the girl also failed.

What is crucial is the speedy action of the police

The crucial thing in the case is that the police team was able to reach there at the time when the accused and the girl reached Bengal. It was a challenge in the investigation that the SIM card used by the accused was switched off at Perumbavoor. The accused was using a new SIM card from here. Hence the search focused on the mobile tower location has come to a dead end. With this, the police team decided to go there and investigate with the conclusion that the accused may have crossed to Bengal with the girl. Bengal’s Dongol police also assisted in the investigation. Without local help, the police team would never have been able to go to the interior villages and investigate. But the girl was found within hours after the Dongkol police provided all necessary assistance.

Accused married, seduced by pretending to be in love…

According to the police, the accused, who is married, lured the girl by pretending to be in love. He had a wife and children in Bengal but lived separately. By hiding all these things, the 10th class student was seduced by pretending to be in love. Suhail’s work and residence were near the girl’s house in Thodupuzha. It was here that he became close to the girl. Contact continued through mobile phone. The police said that the communication between the two was in Hindi.

Accused Suhail

The police say that if the investigation team arrived late, there was a possibility that the accused could have crossed into Bangladesh with the girl. One of Suhail’s sisters is married in Bangladesh. People in border villages are allowed to come to Bangladesh on Friday if they present documents including Aadhaar. The accused’s plan was to use this route to enter Bangladesh with the girl. But he never thought that the police team would reach the village so quickly in search of the girl.

Accused in remand…

The suspect who was taken into custody was first brought to the Dongol station. The next day, he was produced in the Berhampur court, taken into custody and brought to Kerala by air. The girl was produced before the Child Welfare Committee. The accused was produced in court and remanded. The police said that a case has been registered against the accused only for kidnapping.

Idukki SP Kuriakos, Thodupuzha DYSP. SI under the supervision of MR Madhubabu. G. Ajayakumar, A.S.I. A team comprising Salim, CPOs Vijayanand, Harish Babu and Neethukrishna freed the girl and arrested the accused. The Cybercell wing of the police also assisted in the investigation.
