A 15-year-old Belgian boy was arrested on Friday evening because he raced past a traffic control in a built-up area at approximately 200 kilometers per hour, VRT reports. He also appeared to be under the influence of cannabis when he was caught.
The incident happened in the town of Hornu in the province of Hainaut, near the French border. Officers saw the car speed past around 9:15 p.m.
The boy turned out to be in the car with a peer. He will have to answer to the judge for driving under the influence, without a driver’s license and above the speed limit.
Police did not say who owned the car the boy was driving. However, a spokesperson is concerned about the road safety of novice drivers. “This raises questions about whether they are aware of the risks of reckless driving.”
