15 of the 23 monkeys on which Musk implanted brain chips have died “in extreme pain”

The Committee is a group advocating for animal rights. “Almost every monkey that has been chipped in its brain has suffered serious and devastating health consequences,” said Jeremy Beckham, LCOM’s director of research protection. “Honestly, they mutilated and killed animals,” he added.

Nyralink chips were implanted by drilling holes in monkey skulls. One of the primates developed an incurable skin infection and had to be killed. Another was found with missing fingers and toes, “probably from self-harm or some other unspecified injury,” and had to be euthanized as well. A third began to vomit uncontrollably shortly after surgery and days later “seemed to collapse from exhaustion.” The autopsy showed that the animal had a cerebral hemorrhage.

LKOM filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursdayaccusing Davis University of California and Nuralink of nine violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
