Among the novelties we find the cars of the main car manufacturers. There will be several large SUVs with large batteries and long ranges that are actually perfect for families with children, but they will be quite expensive when the new weight tax and VAT of anything over NOK 500,000 will be added from New Years . In this segment we find, among other things, the new Volvo EX90 flagship.
Millions of queues for this
But there are many new electric cars that are also well below the VAT limit. The new Opel Astra station wagon arrives as an electric car, Ford arrives with a compact electric SUV and Toyota confirms that their next electric car will be a small SUV.
Here are 15 of the most exciting electric cars and what we know about them so far.
Fisker Ocean
This is a new and unknown car brand in Norway, but when Danish Henrik Fisker launches the electric Ocean, the Norwegians are first in line. Originally, the basic version of the car was priced at NOK 380,000, but by all accounts it will be a bit more expensive. The first 5,000 cars will be a top-spec launch edition of Ocean One. It should have a range of 630 kilometers (according to factory calculations), two engines for a total of 550 horsepower and four-wheel drive. The price for the first edition is NOK 625,000.
Ford Explorer Sport EV
Ford’s second electric car – following the Mustang Mach-E – will be a midsize SUV the size of today’s Kuga (pictured). The look will also be quite similar. According to Ford, it will have a range of more than 50 miles. The car is built on the same platform as the VW ID.4. We don’t know much more about the car. For now, Ford has not announced the name, but it could be Explorer Sport EV.
Hyundai Ionoq 6
With the Ioniq 6, Hyundai sets a new standard for cars costing less than NOK 500,000. The first cars are here at Easter. It is a sedan model, and the first 600 copies offered for sale sold out within hours, according to the Norwegian importer. It is a version with all-wheel drive, a 77.4 kWt battery pack which guarantees a range of 585 kilometres. The version that impresses the most in terms of range has rear-wheel drive. It has a range of 614 kilometers and costs just under NOK 500,000.
Hyundai Kona
One of the most popular electric cars in Norway, the Hyundai Kona, will come in a new edition in 2023. It will be bigger than today, just like its cousin Kia Niro EV. So far, Hyundai hasn’t revealed any technical data on the car, but we’re guessing it inherits a lot from the Niro. That means a 65 kWt battery pack, a range of about 45 miles, a 204-horsepower engine, and front-wheel drive.
Jeep Avenger
Jeep’s first electric car will arrive in 2023. It’s a compact SUV measuring just over four meters that gets technology from its brothers and sisters in the Stellantis family: the Opel Mokka and Peugeot e-2008. The super-equipped first edition, which you can now order (not yet in Norway), is said to have a range of 39 miles. The price in Europe for the top model is 39,600 euros, around NOK 400,000. Jeep is known for its four-wheel drive, but the Avenger only pulls two.
Mercedes EQE SUV
Just before the new year, the large and expensive SUV version of the Mercedes EQS will arrive in Norway, followed by the SUV version of the Mercedes EQE. The latter is the most exciting. Four-wheel drive will be standard and the range of the 350 4Matic will be 46 miles. The range of the 500 4Matic is approximately 55 miles. The importer believes that the EQE SUV will be their best-selling car in 2023, despite a price that could quickly reach NOK 800,000 – 900,000.
Mini compatriot
In 2023 it is ready for the new Mini Electric (pictured) and Countryman Electric. In addition to the petrol engine versions, they are also available as pure electric cars. The electric car will be built in China as part of BMW’s collaboration with Great Wall Motors. The Countryman is launched at the same time as the other versions of the car, it is expected to have both four-wheel and two-wheel drive and a range of up to 50 miles. It is unclear when exactly in the year the first Norwegian customers will receive their car. The technology is largely taken from the BMW iX1.
Nio EL7
Nio will arrive with two new electric cars in 2023: the ET 5 sedan version and the EL7 SUV. The latter is a large SUV with a large trunk and plenty of room for a family. The car has four-wheel drive and an output of 644 horsepower. The 75 kWt battery should be able to travel around 38 miles, while the 100 kWt battery should provide around 30 miles of range. Pricing starts at just under 800,000 and the first cars are in Norway at the end of January.
Opel Astra-e
An electric version of the Opel Astra will arrive in 2023, both as a five-door sedan and as an estate. The electric range is 41 miles and the engine has 156 horsepower. The station wagon version gets a large trunk and can accommodate a small family. Peugeot also comes with electric versions of the 308 with the same technology. The price of the cars is not yet clear, but for the station wagons we assume just under NOK 350,000.
North Star 3
Polestar has had great success with the Model 2 in Norway, but the new Polestar 3 is unlikely to sell as well. Not because it’s not exciting, but because it’s an almost five-metre SUV, with a 111 kW battery pack, four-wheel drive, engines that together deliver about 500 horsepower and a price accordingly. That is, from around NOK 850,000 and up when VAT and weight tax are included from 1 January.
Renault 5E
This summer, the last examples of the successful Renault Zoe model were delivered to customers in Norway. The new electric car from the factory draws inspiration from an earlier Renault success, namely the Model 5 of the 1980s. The platform the car is built on has room for a battery that should give you around 40 miles of range. It’s unlikely we’ll see the car until the end of the year.
Small Toyota SUV
Speculation about what Toyota’s next electric car will be after the bZ4X has turned up. Recently, Toyota showed the concept model of a new compact SUV the size of the C-HR. However, to Automotive News, Toyota’s European manager Matt Harrison confirms that there is a small SUV the size of the current Hyundai Kona Electric arriving in 2023. Many believe it will be called the bZ2X and derive its looks from the bZ Small Crossover concept car ( pictured), which Toyota presented a year ago.
Volvo EX90
The electric EX90 will be Volvo’s new flagship. It is a large car of almost five meters and with room for seven seats. It has a 111 kWh battery and a range of approximately 60 miles. Furthermore, it can be recharged with 250 kilowatts. In other words, this is going to be a real long-distance car. The Volvo EX90 will have all-wheel drive as standard. That means two engines – one front and one rear – that together produce 496 horsepower. The starting price will be over NOK 900,000, but still several thousand are queuing up to buy, according to Norwegian importer Volvo.
VW ID. 7
Volkswagen’s answer to the Tesla Model 3, which we expect will be called ID. 7, will be unveiled in a production-ready version at the big Las Vegas electronics show in January. The car is built on the same platform as the VW ID. 4, but gets a highly streamlined shape that will contribute to a range of up to 62 miles from a 77 kWt battery, according to VW. From what we know, the car will also come as a station wagon.
XPeng G9
Chinese Xpeng is one of many that will launch a large SUV in 2023. The G9 is the size of Volvo’s new flagship EX90 and will arrive in Norway in the fall. The car is available in two versions: with two-wheel drive and with four-wheel drive. The battery is 98 kWh, but Xpeng still doesn’t say anything about the range. It should be able to be around 50 miles. The cheapest will cost well over NOK 600,000, when you add VAT and New Year’s weight tax.
