A recent study says that although everyone is aware of the benefits of exercise for the immune system, each individual must adjust to a busy daily activity.

Reporting from Medical Daily, Tuesday, World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines advise adults to get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity to improve overall health.

However, a new study presented at the American Physiological Society’s main annual meeting in Long Beach, California brings new hope for people who want to build their immune system, but don’t have enough time to exercise.

It turns out that 15 minutes of light exercise can improve immunity by increasing levels of natural killer cells called raising natural killer (NK), a type of white blood cell that functions as the immune system’s first line of defense.

It was explained that it can target and kill harmful cells, even without previous exposure to pathogens. For example, they look for and destroy infected cells, including cancer cells in the body.

This has been known in previous studies which show that exercise can actually increase the levels of natural killer cells in the bloodstream, thereby increasing the body’s immunity.

“Mobilizing more of these cells can protect the body against infection, reduce the likelihood of developing certain diseases, and help improve disease outcomes by controlling infections more effectively,” said lead study author Rebekah Hunt as reported by BetweenTuesday (9/4).

According to him, the researchers needed to evaluate 10 volunteers aged 18 to 40 years, who cycled moderately for 30 minutes on a stationary bicycle. Before the start of each session and at 15 and 30 minute intervals during the session, blood samples were taken from the volunteers.

Their blood test results showed that the killer cells increased after 15 minutes of exercise, but did not increase further after 30 minutes of cycling.

“This potential boost to the immune system may be especially important for cancer sufferers, as natural killer cells are known to kill tumor cells. Exercising for just a few minutes before seeing such improvements, can be encouraging for people who have trouble finding time to exercise or prefer more exercise.” short,” the researchers said.
