One of the goals of the new MEDIA Mundus program is to strengthen the competitiveness of the European audiovisual industry.
The decision of the European Parliament and the Council to establish the MEDIA MUNDUS program has been published in the official journal of the EU.
The European Union has adopted the new MEDIA Mundus program – a broad program for international cooperation in the audiovisual industry, to strengthen cultural and commercial ties between the European film industry and professionals from third countries. The EU will provide 15 million euros for the period 2011-2013 for projects presented by professionals from Europe and third countries. Working together with the European film industry is a sought-after partnership mechanism, as evidenced by the results and success of the preparatory action MEDIA International.
The objectives of the new MEDIA Mundus program are to strengthen the competitiveness of the European audiovisual industry, to enable Europe to fulfill its cultural and political role more effectively on a global scale, and to increase consumer choice and increase cultural diversity. The program will seek to improve access to third country markets and build trust and long-term working relationships.
The current MEDIA 2007 program provides 755 million euros for the film industry of the program’s member countries.
