A Stradivarius violin, which was used, among other things, to record the soundtracks for several Hollywood films, has been auctioned in New York for around 15 million dollars (around 14.3 million euros).
The violin, made in 1714 by the Italian instrument maker Antonio Stradivari and last owned by a Japanese collector, sold for $15.34 million, according to the Tarisio auction house in New York.
Soundtrack for “The Wizard of Oz” played with the instrument
The Russian-American musician Toscha Seidel used the instrument for a long time and used it to record the soundtrack for the Hollywood classic “The Wizard of Oz” (1939) and other films. The auction house did not initially say who bought the violin.
