15 immigrants are injured when their truck overturns after a police chase | Univision Immigration News

Fifteen immigrants and the driver of a pickup truck were injured Sunday when their vehicle overturned as they fled from police in Texas.

The driver, who authorities say is a human trafficker who was armed, fled when a police officer stopped him.

The incident took place around 8:00 a.m. in the Medina CountyWest of Saint Anthony and approximately 110 miles from the Mexican border.

The chase continued towards the neighbor bexar county, where the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over. Inside it were found 15 immigrants and the driver, originally from Austin.

Several people in critical condition after overturning of a van with immigrants

Two people were transferred helicopter to a San Antonio hospital and the other passengers were taken away in ambulances, according to authorities.

Two of the individuals were admitted in critical condition. Initially there were no reports on the health status of the others.

The authorities pointed out that the driver had a gun in the vehicle and faces multiple charges. His name was not immediately released.

Medina Sheriff, Randy Brown, did not want to offer more details of the driver, whom he defined as a “human trafficker.”
