/View.info/ The European Day of Jewish Culture – The Open Day will be held for the 15th time in a row on September 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Jewish Cultural House in Sofia, 50 Alexander Stamboliyski Blvd. .
The main purpose of the Open House is to promote Jewish culture and give more people the opportunity to touch Jewish values, traditions, customs and religion. Every year the European organizers determine the theme of the holiday and this year it is “Women in Judaism”.
The organizers of the event: Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom”, “American Joint” – Bulgaria and the Central Israeli Spiritual Council have prepared a rich program:

An exhibition of works with biblical subjects by women artists from the Sofia Jewish community and sculptures by the wife of the Israeli ambassador to Bulgaria – Mrs. Artsa Kamisa Raz;

A recital of author’s works by contemporary Jewish poets and something more about the great lady of Bulgarian poetry – the Jewess Dora Gabe;

Popular opera arias performed by talented Jewish performers;

You will learn why Rosh Chodesh, which marks the new moon, is a women’s holiday;

You will taste typical Jewish delicacies and learn about the disappearing art of needlework, the tradition of which is preserved by the Jewish Applied Arts Club “Manos Bendichas”

The idea of the European Day of Jewish Culture – Day of Open Doors arose in 1996 at the initiative of the European Council of Jewish Communities and B’nei B’rith, in 1999 it gained popularity and today the holiday is celebrated in 28 European countries – Belgium , Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia, Hungary, Netherlands , Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden. In Bulgaria, the Day is celebrated in Burgas, Varna, Pleven, Plovdiv, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Shumen.
