SPACE — While we often look to the stars, planets and moons for strange and fantastic places in space, our own Earth has something no less amazing. Our Earth is rich in vast and varied landscapes and structures fit for a science fiction epic.

The following are 15 places on Earth that are similar to alien planets according to the Live Science website:

1. Fly Geyser, Nevada

This man-made geothermal geyser was actually created by accident. After being drilled for water, the area was covered again several times. However, something amazing appeared, Fly Geyser grew from mineral deposits.

These sediments together with thermophilic algae create fantastic red and green colors. Be a flying Geyser.

2. Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone

According to the National Park Service, the largest hot springs in Yellowstone are 60 to 90 meters in diameter with a depth of more than 36 meters. Its wild rainbow pattern is created by a combination of a number of phenomena.

First, thermophilic algae and bacteria along temperature gradients. Then, the hottest water is sterile which causes a bright blue color in the center of the spring.

3. Rainbow Mountain, Peru (Rainbow Mountain), Peru

Also known as Vinicunca, or Mountain of Seven Colors, Rainbow Mountain was discovered in 2015 after the snow cover melted. The rose, gold, mint and lavender colored stripes are created from the mountain’s mineral makeup and weathering over time.
