14th MyFrenchFilmFestival by Unifrance – Innovative Online Festival Dedicated to French-Language Films

Festival MyFrenchFilmFestival organized by the organization for the fourteenth time Unifrance, which since 1949 has been responsible for promoting French cinema and television films to the world. It is the first and most ambitious online festival dedicated entirely to French-language films.

This was innovative at the time of the festival’s inception Unifrance and the initiative of its partners, which has become a stable and effective platform for the distribution of films in the digital environment over the years. It is important that this tool is familiar to the audience and easy to use – the content can be accessed both on the festival’s website and on other platforms (this year there are more than eighty of them around the world – this is a record in the history of the project). The aim is to make French audiovisual production easily accessible wherever you are, but especially where access to cinemas is limited and where French films are under-represented.

“Since 2010 MyFrenchFilmFestival has pushed boundaries to bring a diverse range of French films to audiences around the world. Showcasing works from France and other French-speaking countries, the festival gives new generations of cinematographers and artists the opportunity to showcase their craft around the world. The success of the festival is ensured by its large and loyal audience: over the years, the total number of views has been more than 92 million,” says Unifrance general manager Daniela Elstner.

The films offered by the 2013 online festival were viewed 14 million times in 200 countries. “The international recognition of the festival made us choose MyFrenchFilmFestival about the new pillar of his program-making ambitions. By expanding the range of content offered on online platforms, we hope to reach the audience in order to continuously satisfy their desire to discover more and more new French films and audiovisual programs not only during the festival, but also throughout the year,” adds Daniela Elstner.

This year, the program includes 26 films of different genres and forms (ten feature-length works and sixteen short films), grouped into eight thematic blocks. They are subtitled in eleven languages - French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin and Russian. Movies can be watched on PC, smartphone, TV and tablet anywhere in the world, but some works are regionally geo-blocked. For example, the film portrait of the actress and singer Jane Birkin created by the director Anjeze Varda is unfortunately not available in our region. Jane B. by Agnès V. (1988), which balances between documentary and drama.

Short films can be enjoyed worldwide for free. Somewhat sad news for the Latvian public – this time you will have to pay for watching full-length movies (1.99 euros for one movie, 7.99 euros for a full subscription). In previous years, all festival films were available for free in Latvia. In many parts of the world, full-length films will also be available for free this year – in Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, CIS countries and Southeast Asia.

Nine full-length films and nine short films participate in the competition program of the festival. The best feature film will be determined by an international jury of professionals (the prize – 15,000 euros – will be divided equally between the director, producer and distributor) and an international press jury. For the first time in the festival’s history, the best short film will be awarded by a jury of digital content authors. Viewers will also be able to vote for their favorites in both contest programs. All winners will be announced on February 20, the day after the end of the festival.
