A total of 1,498 pregnant mother in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) exposed Covid-19 throughout this Corona pandemic.
“67 people died during this pandemic,” said Head of the DIY Health Service, Pembajun Setyaningastutie on the sidelines of a mass vaccination event for pregnant women at UGM, Sleman, DIY.
The supervisor explained that pregnant women belong to a vulnerable group so it is necessary for them to immediately receive the Covid-19 vaccination.
The target of the Health Service is that 13 thousand out of a total of 24 thousand pregnant women should be vaccinated immediately. The category is those who enter the 13th week of pregnancy.
“That is, entering the trimester,” added Pembajun.
Continuing to vaccinate pregnant women under 13 weeks of gestation will harm the fetus in the womb, considering that not all of their vital organs have been formed.
Head of the Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (POGI) Yogyakarta Diah Rumekti Hadiarti added that the target for vaccination of 13,000 pregnant women submitted by the Health Service is expected to be completed next September for the first dose.
Vaccination for pregnant women is planned to be held in various health care facilities in the future.
Diah added that vaccination of pregnant women does not have to be preceded by a certificate from an obstetrician. At least they do not have a fever, while diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, or auto immunity are at least under control before the vaccination is carried out.
“Vaccination (pregnant women) if infected, the symptoms are mild, not critical,” he said.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of Regional Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) DIY, Chinggih Widanarto, said that there would be efforts to collaborate with midwives to become vaccinators of pregnant women. Chinggih explained that there were around 470 midwives in 5 districts/cities throughout DIY who had received vaccinator training from the Ministry of Health.
“BKKBN has been appointed as the coordinator of vaccination for pregnant women, children, especially families, involving independent practice midwives,” he said.
Pentahelix Approach to Covid Handling
Meanwhile in a separate place, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said, in dealing with Covid-19, the government from the beginning used the pentahelix approach.
He said this approach involves five components, namely the government, the private sector, universities, civil society and the media.
“Since the beginning we have applied the principle, namely the pentahelix, the pentahelix approach where the government is only one component of the existing 5 components,” said Muhadjir in a virtual press conference, Thursday (19/8).
He said, to re-strengthen the coordination, his party together with a number of related institutions held a national coordination meeting on the national solidarity movement, mental revolution for handling Covid-19.
“All the results of the decision (meeting) will be followed up, namely a joint secretariat will be formed at the level of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture to invigorate, encourage, take joint action in order to build national solidarity in overcoming this,” he said.
Positive cases of Covid-19 increased by 22,053 today, Thursday (19/8). Thus, the number of positive cases of the corona virus in Indonesia has now become 3,930,300 since it was first announced by President Joko Widodo in early March 2020.
Referring to the data from the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, of the total positive cases, 3,472,915 of them have recovered. Patients who recovered from the corona virus infection increased by 29,012 from the previous day.
Of the total positive cases, 122,633 of them died. Patients who died increased by 1,492 from the previous day. Active cases are now 334,752. A decrease of 8,451 from the previous day.
