A total of 14,430 doses of covid vaccines were lost in Chihuahua because they expired or were lost in operation.

These are 8,800 doses of pediatric Pfizer and 5,630 of the Abdala brand, according to the state Health Secretariat through a request for information on the transparency platform.

For his part, the Secretary of Health, Gilberto Baeza, previously expressed that the vaccine of Cuban origin, Abdala, has had a displacement of just 2 percent among Chihuahuans.

The agency pointed out that the vaccination strategy continues to be led by SEDENA’s Correcaminos Coordinator, so there is no information from other health institutions, so the data corresponds only to the Chihuahua Health Services.

Thus, Chihuahua Health Services currently maintains an inventory of 51,000 doses of the Abdala brand with lot number A182032.

This brand of vaccine, for people of legal age, is the only one that has reported expiration and has been discarded in a number of 5,630 doses.

As a result, the vaccine inactivation and disposal procedure had to be carried out “as established in chapter 13 of the 2023 Vaccination Manual,” the secretariat stated.

They also pointed out that “the doses that expired in the State were received with a short expiration date period or with a letter of extension of the same.”

Likewise, they added that the “doses reported as lost in operation are because COVID-19 vaccines have a shelf life of less than 12 hours once the vaccine vial is opened.”

This is the case of the pediatric Pfizer vaccines, of which a total of 8,800 doses were lost for application to minors.

The Secretary of Health Gilberto Baeza expressed that the Abdala vaccine has had a very low level of acceptance with mobility of 2 percent. He pointed out that in addition to the Cuban vaccine, the Mexican Patria vaccine was announced, however he emphasized that there is currently no date for it to be supplied in the state of Chihuahua.
