ANGERSBACH (ol). More than 140 young people recently took part in a special youth service in Angersbach, which had the motto “Happiness”. The event featured musical performances, refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails and interviews to find out what makes young people happy. The anticipation for the next youth service with a Star Wars theme was already noticeable.
On October 13th, a “Friday the 13th”, a very special youth service took place in Angersbach, according to a press release from the Vogelsberg Evangelical Deanery, which welcomed the visitors – mainly young people – with a warm welcome from the chimney sweep Kai Oechler from Grebenhain. A ladder awaited the guests at the entrance, giving them another clue to the theme of the service: “Happiness.”
The service was moderated by co-organizer Michael Kaiser and Lara Schneider, a member of the youth representation of the Vogelsberg Deanery (EJVD), both from Herbstein. Not only did the two presenters have a relaxed and entertaining style, they said, but they also shared something very special: they both celebrate their birthdays on the same day, which created a bond between them. Lara Schneider began by talking about her very own moment of happiness – a marriage proposal on her last vacation.
An important part of the service was the music and this came from a talented band consisting of Andi Witte on the electric guitar, David Kaiser on the drums, Elena Kemmann as a singer and Michael Kaiser, who in addition to singing also played the piano and the organ served. Her rousing performance created a great atmosphere right from the start. It was said that many of the worshipers sang along loudly to the song “My Lighthouse”.
In addition to the music, there were also refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails, prepared by the confirmation candidates from Angersbach together with Tina Koller and Sandra Bandhauer, volunteers from children and youth work from Angersbach. The visitors were also able to enjoy homemade fortune cookies, which were lovingly prepared by Pastor Luise Berroth from Maar, Birgit Schneider, Lara Schneider and EJVD member Finja Richter.
During the service, some young people were interviewed to find out what makes them personally happy. It became clear that there is “short-term and long-term happiness” and that “feelings of happiness can be triggered by different things, experiences and people”. These discussions were moderated by Herbstein’s pastor Daniel Meyer and Claudia Fischer from the Evangelical Deanery of Vogelsberg. A short interview was also conducted with Michael Kaiser in his role as supervisor and coach to make it clear to the young churchgoers that “it doesn’t always have to be the big things that mean happiness”.
In the intercessions, the requests and thanks previously noted by the young people were formulated, which meant that Pastor Daniel Meyer, Luca Alexander Möller, member of the youth representative of the Vogelsberg Deanery (EJVD) and deanery youth officer Jutta Steckenreuter from the Evangelical Deanery Vogelsberg brought a special depth to the service, as follows it was said.
The technology for the service was provided and supported by Volker Fischer, for which many thanks were expressed. At the end, local priest Michael Gütgemann from Angersbach thanked everyone involved and emphasized the importance of shared commitment.
A total of 140 people attended the service from the entire deanery area, which visibly pleased the organizers. “We were really amazed at the huge turnout,” says organizer Claudia Fischer. The preparation team was very pleased with how many people accepted the invitation and emphasized the importance of volunteer work. “How many volunteers got involved, even in advance – how they went hand in hand, how everyone worked together, including the band, that was really great and is not at all a given. There’s so much potential there. “It’s brilliant what we can achieve together,” says Claudia Fischer proudly.
The deanery youth officer encouraged anyone interested to get in touch to participate in the next youth service at claudia.fischer@ekhn.de.
After an opulent organ accompaniment, accompanied by electric guitar and drums, the service ended with the vote on the theme of the next youth service: “Star Wars – Is the Force with You?” The enthusiasm and joy of the celebration together was that day was clearly noticeable and the anticipation for upcoming events was palpable, it concluded.
