He admitted that the number of hospitalized patients with Covid-19 and self-isolation is increasing every day, however, their ratio to the total number of employees is not so high – 5-6%. “But it is still a very important resource that we actually lack at the moment so that we can provide much better treatment for Covid-19 patients,” said Paeglitis.
The occupancy rate of beds for Covid-19 patients in hospitals is 82%, which is higher than in the country as a whole. In total, the Eastern Hospital currently has about 300 beds for Covid-19 patients, and their number could be further increased, but there are problems with insufficient staff, Paeglītis reminded of the problem that has been updated in recent days.
Asked how the hospital’s work would change if an emergency situation were declared in the healthcare sector, the hospital manager replied that in that case he would have to give up more planned services. “Of course, we will try to evaluate each case separately,” Paeglitis promised.
He added that Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in all five RAKUS hospitals and that there has been no time since the spring when any of these hospitals have developed a new coronavirus.
