These supports are given through an agreement between the Quindío Coffee Growers Committee and the municipal mayor’s office.

Thanks to an agreement signed between the Committee of Coffee Growers of Quindío and the mayor of Armenia, 140 coffee growers from this municipality received inputs to support their production processes.
From the union entity they indicated that it is the agreement called ‘Productive strengthening and technical assistance to the peasant and coffee-growing population of the municipality of Armenia, with the purpose of mitigating the socioeconomic effects generated from the declaration of the national state of emergency by the Covid-19 ‘.
For the development of this initiative, $ 360,967,291 was allocated, of which the Committee of Coffee Growers of Quindío contributes $ 108,290,187 and the mayor of Armenia $ 252,677,103.
The beneficiaries of this initiative are inhabitants of the villages Alto Guevara, El Caimo, El Edén, El Mesón, El Rhin, La Patria, La Revancha, Marmato, Mesopotamia, Murillo, Puerto Espejo, San Juan, San Pedro, Santa Ana and Tigreros .
Educational component
This project places special emphasis on the educational component, which constitutes the fundamental factor before applying and putting into practice the acquired knowledge.
Among its purposes is to use innovative technologies to ensure stability in coffee productivity and quality, as well as to rescue and strengthen the culture of food self-sufficiency in the coffee-growing population, especially in times of economic recovery, after the strong impacts produced by the pandemic.
“To achieve the proposed objectives, at the end of last month 2 field schools were carried out at the El Agrado farm, located in Montenegro, in which training was given on these topics, and then put what was learned into context,” they reported. from the Quindío Coffee Growers Committee.
They added that it is important to highlight that all beneficiary producers have lots with coffee in the productive stage and it is intended to improve the conditions of said productivity on their farms, through fertilization as a balanced nutrition strategy.
“In historical moments like this, in which coffee presents excellent sale prices, but in which, in turn, as a consequence, among others, of the global traffic jam that generates effects on the world economy, fertilizers have increases of up to 100% on your prices, supporting the nutrition of coffee crops and therefore their productivity represents a lot for us as an institution and for the local coffee growers who continue to bet on this flagship product on their farms ”, said José Martín Vásquez Arenas, Executive Director of the Committee of Cafeteros del Quindío.
Conservation of the PCC
Another objective of the agreement is to motivate the identity and importance of peasant families in the conservation of the Coffee Cultural Landscape, PCC, which in 2021 celebrated 10 years of having been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.
To contribute to this end, the intervened coffee growing families visited the Parque del Café and increased their knowledge about the coffee culture and the landscape.
