Two teenagers aged 14 and 15 were shot yesterday in broad daylight in East Harlem and the youngest of them died after being shot in the head, the New York police reported.

The two teens briefly entered a warehouse near East 128th Street and Lexington Avenue around 4:20 p.m. They got out and headed toward Park Avenue; that’s when the shots erupted.

“A male emerges around the corner and fires a volley of shots at the two young men,” said NYPD Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey. The teenagers ran between two cars, he added.

The 14-year-old minor was shot in the head and fell between the cars. The 15-year-old victim, who was shot in the left leg, went outside and ran toward Lexington Av. A passerby saw what was happening, took the 15-year-old to safety and called 911, he said. Pix11.

Both teens were hospitalized. The 15-year-old was in stable condition, but the 14-year-old was reported in “very, very serious condition,” Maddrey said. Later Mayor Eric Adams, a former NYPD, showed up at the crime scene. Hours later, the boy died, reported The New York Times.

It’s unclear if the teens knew the gunman, but it appears they were the targets of the shooting, police said. The attacker fled the scene. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect.

“This is terrible and we should not have to suffer this armed violence,” Maddrey denounced.New York is much better” (than this).
