14-year-old Alina’s Journey from Ukraine to Holland’s Got Talent: A Story of Resilience and Passion for Dance

The studio of Holland’s Got Talent is once again full of tense candidates all fighting for the win. This also applies to 14-year-old Alina, who fled the war from Ukraine a year ago: “It was a difficult time. I come from the city of Odessa and it was very difficult there.”

Together with her family, Alina therefore decided to flee the country: “We came to the Netherlands by car (…), because my grandfather is Dutch.” Alina’s step-grandfather is married to her grandmother, but the bond between the two is very good: “She’s just my granddaughter, that’s it,” says her grandfather.

Even though they are now safe, Alina carries a lot of bad memories with her: “So they saw the rockets fly over. They heard the attacks, so in that respect they are safe,” says Alina’s grandfather. That had a big impact on her: “I can’t explain it well, but I was very scared, just like my family.”

Fortunately, once in the Netherlands, Alina finds peace in dancing. Her grandfather says proudly: “At one point I signed her up for dance lessons in Maastricht. Purely the fact that she has something to do, because she has the talent for it.”

And he turns out to be right, because after her performance the jury is in favor Holland’s Got Talent quite impressed. “You are a beautiful dancer,” says Dan Karaty. When it turns out that Alina also came up with her choreography all by herself, the judges can’t help but give her a lot of praise. Then: “You’re fantastic. I love your performance.”

It is therefore no surprise that Alina has advanced to the next round. No matter how the competition turns out for her, Alina will always continue to dance: “When I dance, I get such a good feeling. I think I will continue to dance for the rest of my life,” says Alina with a smile on her face .

Holland’s Got Talent see you every Friday at 8 p.m. on RTL 4.
