14 people arrested for blackmailing merchants in exchange for allowing them to display their goods

In close coordination with the services of the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance, members of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police arrested, on Wednesday, April 5th, in Meknes, 14 persons suspected of involvement in acts of extortion and threats to commit felonies and misdemeanors against persons and property.

A security source stated that the suspects, whose ages ranged between 24 and 50, were exposing merchants and street vendors to extortion and threats to collect sums from them periodically in exchange for allowing them to offer their goods for sale. Security operations were carried out to arrest them simultaneously in a group of Meknes neighborhoods, especially Borj. Moulay Omar, Bani Mohamed, Sidi Bouzkari, olives, orchards and the old city.

The suspects, all of whom had criminal records, were placed under the theoretical guard measure at the disposal of the judicial investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, to reveal all the circumstances and circumstances of this criminal activity, and to identify its possible links.
