14 Employees Trapped in Flood and Landslide at Freeport Successfully Evacuated

A total of 14 employees of PT Freeport Indonesia, which was caught in flash floods and landslides in the Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, was successfully evacuated. They were evacuated safely.

“At 20.43 (WIT), 14 employees (previously 13) who were trapped in the building have been evacuated and there were no casualties,” said PT Freeport Indonesia Vice President Corporate Communications Katri Krisnati in a statement received, Saturday (11/2/2023) evening as reported detikSulsel.

Mimika Police Chief AKBP I Gede Putra also said that all the victims who were evacuated were safe.

“Our latest information is at the management level. Management says all employees are safe until tonight,” he said when confirmed separately.

Previously, 13 employees of PT Freeport Indonesia in the Copperpura District, Mimika Regency, was reportedly caught in flash floods and landslides. They are still waiting for evacuation.

“On Saturday, February 11, 2023, at around 16.00 WIT, there was an avalanche in the Sag Mile 3 Mile 74 area of ​​the Copperpura District due to high rainfall which resulted in a landslide in area 74,” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo when asked confirmation, Saturday (11/2).
