The Gaza Ministry of Health reported on Friday (03/15/2024) that at least 14 people were killed and 150 injured by “Israeli shooting” against a crowd waiting for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
«The Israeli occupation forces targeted a congregation of citizens waiting for humanitarian aid (in a small square in Gaza City, ed.). “So far, 11 dead and 100 injured have been transported to al-Shifa hospital,” the Ministry stated in a statement, but later increased the toll to 14 dead and 150 injured.
At the scene, an AFP agency collaborator saw many bodies and gunshot wounds. The Reuters news agency, for its part, raised the number of fatalities to 29.
UN fears famine
The UN fears widespread famine in the territory besieged by Israel, especially in the difficult-to-access north, where some 300,000 people currently live.
The Gaza Strip, under siege by Israel since October 9, is suffering from a serious shortage of supplies and several countries have resorted to planes to deliver humanitarian aid.
But 25 NGOs, including Amnesty International and Oxfam, warned that these humanitarian air operations “are not an alternative” to ground deliveries.
The conflict broke out on October 7 with the attack by Islamist commandos on Israeli soil, in which some 1,160 people died, mainly civilians, according to an AFP count based on Israeli data.
In addition, some 250 people were kidnapped and 130 remain captive in Gaza, of whom 31 have died, according to Israeli authorities.
In response, Israel promised to “annihilate” the Hamas terrorist group and launched a military campaign that has so far left 31,341 dead, mostly civilians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
