Celebrating the 135th anniversary of the epic “Lāčplēsis” by Andrej Pumpuras, as well as the 35th anniversary of the legendary rock opera by Zigmars Liepiņš and Māras Zālīte, everyone interested had the opportunity to watch the rock opera at the end of November 11 on Latvian television.
NRA already wrote that on October 14, the new production of Zigmar Liepiņš and Māras Zālīte’s rock opera “LACPLĖIS” under the direction of Rēzia Kalniņa was performed in Arena Riga. This was a repeated performance of the new production of the rock opera and it took place on Zigmars Liepiņš’s birthday, thus ending the composer’s 70th anniversary year, but the premiere on Latvian television was just on November 11, as part of Lāčplēš Day.
Theater critic Zane Radzobe watched the rock opera on television, and she likes to share her thoughts about what she saw publicly on her Facebook:
I’m watching “Bear Predator”. To say something good – the voices are much better than in the previous versions, of course not the eighties. But in general – WTF? I won’t even comment on the levels of taste, but couldn’t someone have at least a little bit done so that the soloists don’t “play” so repulsively badly?
